In the first movie, it's stated that Loki is actually trapped inside the Mask (this is likely also the case in the animated series), but in the abysmal sequel, Son of the Mask, Loki isn't trapped inside and acts independently of both the Mask and its wearer. Neuman mentions that Loki was imprisoned by Odin, a man in black becomes very angry and transforms, revealing himself.
